Foundations For A Lifetime

The original structure reached an unsafe state of rot after 24 years of exposure. Seeking a permanent solution for a forever home, the owners looked beyond traditional lumber to a foundation that remains immune to the warping and decay of organic wood.

  • Reconstructing for Permanence: Decaying timber gave way to a 14-gauge New Castle Steel skeleton.
  • High-Performance Backbone: Structural steel permits massive spans while supporting a 50-year warranty, providing a level of reliability matching the residence.
  • Stability in Every Season: Steel remains thermally stable, keeping mitered corners and boards flush through extreme temperature swings in Missouri.

A Sanctuary Without Boundaries

Primary objectives centered on preserving a stunning view of a natural pool and yard. Traditional railings served as visual barriers, segmenting the outdoor experience.

Unobstructed Glass Horizons

Solid Ground installed the Regal Ideas Glass Rail system to solve the visual clutter.

  • Invisible Security: Removing traditional spindles allows for completely open views while maintaining a secure perimeter via a locking gate.
  • Symmetry and Sightlines: The glass reflects the pool’s water, expanding the space’s feel and allowing the natural landscape to take center stage.

Climate-Controlled Connection

At the heart of the build sits a 250 sq ft covered deck leading into a 450 sq ft open deck. By integrating patio heaters, fans, and misters, the area functions as a comfortable sanctuary regardless of the forecast.

Dual-Level Living and Water Management

To maximize the footprint, Solid Ground addressed the space beneath the structure.

Subsurface Protection

Installing the Haven Underdeck System created a dry, sheltered environment below the main deck.

  • Water Management Strategy: Advanced channels move rain away from the home, protecting the lower level from spring rainstorms.
  • Shaded Relief: The underdecking provides a spot to escape the summer heat, finished with James Hardie siding and ChamClad accents for a sophisticated look.

Professional Finishing Standards

To mirror the steel frame’s longevity, Solid Ground selected Deckorators Voyage decking. This mineral-based composite offers industry-leading slip resistance, providing a secure footing for wet feet near the pool.

  • Fastener-Free Surface: Using Camo edge fasteners keeps the boards smooth and uninterrupted.
  • Hardware Integration: Simpson, Starborn, and Fastenmaster hardware connect the structure with precision, forming a single high-performance unit.
