Overcoming Structural Failure with New Castle Steel
In Wentzville, the Mahoney family faced a recurring problem: a 10-year-old composite deck already suffering from rot. This was the second structure to fail on the property. They approached us with a clear goal—this third build had to be the final one.
We removed the failing wood and replaced it with a New Castle Steel frame. Backed by a 50-year warranty, this galvanized steel foundation removes the organic material that leads to rot, providing a level of permanence that pressure-treated lumber cannot match.
Visual Symmetry & Finish
This project moved beyond simple replacement. We focused on the visual balance of the rear of the home:
- Symmetry Correction: We installed a “beauty board” across the deck surface, deliberately offset to align with the home’s windows, correcting the off-balance appearance of the previous deck and creating a cohesive look with the existing house lines.
- Furniture-Grade Detail: We wrapped the perimeter in matching fascia with a waterfall edge and crown moulding reveal for a clean finish.
- Safety & Atmosphere: A down-firing LED lighting system wraps the deck and staircase, highlighting the picture-frame reveal on every stair tread for better visibility at night.
Project Technical Specifications
- Framing System: New Castle Steel galvanized framing with a 50-year warranty.
- Decking Surface: TimberTech Advanced PVC in Coconut Husk.
- Railing: Regal Rail system for an unobstructed view.
- Structural Hardware: Simpson Strong-Tie, Starborn, and Fastenmaster fasteners.
- Fastening Method: Camo hidden fastener system for a screw-free surface.
From Stress to Stability
The frustration with repeated repairs and structural failures disappeared once the steel frame was anchored. The Mahoney family now has an outdoor space that will provide stability for decades.
