The Challenge: A Deck That Had Reached Its Limit
The original wood deck was severely rotted and no longer safe for everyday use. The homeowners were a growing young family in need of a much larger and more functional space to match their lifestyle. Their goal was to have a low-maintenance decking and outdoor area that could support frequent gatherings, provide a place for the kids to play, and offer comfort even during less-than-ideal weather. We settled on building a composite deck.
Project Highlights: Innovative Two-Level Design Built for Everyday Use and Entertaining
We removed the failing structure and built a new 640-square-foot elevated deck using a New Castle steel framing system for long-term durability. The decking includes a custom mix of Deckorators Voyage and Armadillo composite deck boards in a modern two-tone pattern. Below deck, we installed an additional 640-square-foot paver patio and a finished underdeck ceiling system with recessed lighting and ceiling fans for all-weather comfort. Regal Rail black aluminum railings were installed around the perimeter for safety and style.
The Results: A Durable, Family-Ready Outdoor Living Space That Works Year-Round
The completed project gives this family a two-level outdoor living area designed for versatility and longevity. The upper deck is ideal for daytime relaxation and entertaining, while the lower patio offers a shaded retreat that remains usable during light rain. This new setup features low-maintenance decking, visually clean and ready to handle high use. A pool and further patio expansion are already planned for the next phase.
