Foundation Strategy for Reclaimed Flood Plains
The Winters project began below the surface. Built on backfilled ground within a historic flood plain, the property demanded a foundation strategy that standard construction cannot provide. To achieve permanent stability, Solid Ground reached deep into the earth.
- Hidden Strength: Solid Ground employed American Ground Screws and oversized piers with high load capacities. We extended these piers deep below the existing paver patio, providing a hidden, stable base that maintains a clean look at ground level.
- Structural Openness: The strength of the 14-gauge New Castle Steel frame allowed for expansive spans. By reducing the number of vertical posts, we opened the lower patio to air and light, turning a secondary space into a primary destination.
A Sanctuary Built for Security
For homeowners who have previously endured a house fire, beauty is only half the requirement. They sought a space offering an uncompromising level of protection.
The Gold Standard of Fire Safety
We selected a material combination specifically for a Class A Fire Rating. The marriage of a structural steel skeleton and TimberTech Vintage decking provides the highest safety rating available in the industry.
Backed by a 50-year warranty, the structure stands as a testament to the idea that a deck can be as resilient as it is refined.
Advanced Water Management
To keep the lower living area comfortable, we integrated the Haven Underdecking system. Unlike standard products, this is a sophisticated water-management solution that channels runoff away from the home while delivering a finished, professional ceiling.
It ensures the lower-level lounge remains a viable space through changing seasons without the risks associated with traditional “waterproofing” claims.
The Spiral to the Water
The lake view remains the focal point of the property. To preserve the horizon, we installed a custom Trex Spiral Staircase. This architectural choice provides a graceful, space-saving transition between the upper sanctuary and the water’s edge.
Furniture-Grade Artistry
The beauty of the Winters project lies in the details often overlooked:
- The Waterfall Edge: A 7.25-inch picture frame border flows over the edge of the deck, mimicking fine indoor cabinetry.
- The Invisible Cut: Our signature fascia wrap conceals every board end, creating a seamless exterior that feels carved rather than assembled.
- The Horizon Rail: Regal Ideas Railing sits across the front of the deck, offering a clear line of sight to the lake, while matching picket rails guide the way down the spiral stairs.
Industry Recognition: This project was featured in Deck Specialist Magazine (pages 22-23) for its technical execution and design.
