Solid Ground began in 2009 as a family-driven business rooted in craftsmanship and trust. Founded by Tara and Tommy Holstein, the company started as Barefoot Decks and later rebranded to Solid Ground when the family moved back to Missouri, expanding their focus beyond decks to complete outdoor living solutions.
What started as a one-man operation evolved into a true family business, with each member playing a vital role. Tommy brings decades of carpentry and sales expertise, while Tara manages operations with a focus on excellence and organization. Their children are actively involved in project management, design, and media, making it a multi-generational effort driven by care and pride.
Recognized for Excellence and Giving Backy Building More Than Decks: Solid Ground’s Community Impact
Solid Ground was honored by NCP Industries with a $10,000 award, celebrating not only their craftsmanship but also their dedication to mentorship and community service. The award-winning project was a unique collaboration with the local high school football team’s trades class, where Solid Ground mentored young students in the art of deck building, providing them with hands-on experience in the trade.
In keeping with their commitment to giving back, Solid Ground directed the award funds to Love Like Jackson, a nonprofit that provides therapy and grief support for children who have lost siblings. Through expressive therapies like music, art, and one-on-one counseling, the organization—founded by Carrie Schmitt in memory of her son Jackson—helps young survivors navigate their grief.
