A Brick Home Deserved a Deck to Match

Brick homes carry a particular visual standard. The materials around them need to belong; not just function, but fit the permanence and character the home already has.

The Jaggers family wanted a deck that met that standard. Not a box bolted to the back of the house, but a considered outdoor space with detailed work in the surface, a border that frames it, and railings that close it out cleanly. Getting things started with solving a problem most homeowners don’t see coming.

Attaching Steel to Brick

A brick home presents a specific structural challenge: standard ledger board attachment methods don’t apply. Drilling into brick without the right hardware compromises both the wall and the connection.

Solid Ground fabricated custom brackets designed for the Jaggers home’s brick exterior, transferring the deck load cleanly into the structure without disturbing the masonry. A 14-gauge New Castle Steel frame ties into those brackets and carries the full platform, set on American Ground Screws below the frost line. The attachment is considered the surface above it.

How It Came Together

  • Custom brackets fabricated for brick home attachment; no standard ledger, no compromised masonry
  • 14-gauge New Castle Steel frame anchored on American Ground Screws below the frost line
  • Deckorators Saltwater composite across the main field with a Sierra picture frame border at the perimeter
  • Custom herringbone inlay worked into the deck surface
  • Deckorators aluminum railing closing out the perimeter

The herringbone inlay

A herringbone pattern on a deck surface isn’t a shortcut; it requires precise cuts, careful layout, and a stable frame to hold tight geometry over time. The result at Jaggers is a surface that reads as crafted rather than assembled.

Saltwater field, Sierra frame

Deckorators Saltwater is a cool, muted tone that holds its color through years of sun exposure without fading toward gray. Sierra runs the perimeter as the picture frame border; a warmer tone that draws a clean line around the field and gives the herringbone pattern a defined edge to land against.

Deckorators railing

The Deckorators aluminum railing ties the perimeter together with the same material family as the decking. Black aluminum, clean balusters, consistent with the deck’s elevated scale and the brick home behind it.

Finishing without a trace.

CAMO Wedge Metal hidden fasteners keep the field and border surfaces clean; no screw faces interrupt the herringbone pattern or the picture frame line. Starborn color-matched plugs close every structural connection so the hardware disappears completely into the finish.

Detail Work That Earns Every Square Foot

Brick home. Custom brackets. Steel frame. Herringbone surface. A picture frame border that gives the pattern somewhere to land. Every decision on the Jaggers deck connected back to the same standard the home had already set, and Solid Ground was built to meet it.

If your home calls for something more than standard, let’s talk about what that looks like.
